While undertaking a design humanitarian internship in Vijayawada, India, Crone developed an education scheme that sought to promote the importance of aquaponics in rural farming communities. Aquaponics is a system where aquaculture is combined with hydroponics whereby the waste produced from the fish serves as the nutrients to grow the plants. The three tier program begun with a small scale classroom model of an affordable aquaponic system that aimed to educate primary aged children on the foundations of the technology. At a community level, the program proposed an aquaponic playground seating (pictured below) where the system could be interacted with in order to further develop an understanding of how the technology could work at a larger scale. The third tier, proposed how the system could be used on a commercial level to bring income to communities efficiently with minimal waste product.
